Day 14

I have not eaten solid food other than Saltines and popsicles since Thursday morning. That is my diet tip of the day. Please do not take that seriously. Solid food is very important. I just do not have my appetite back. I have cravings but when it comes time to actually decide on something to eat, my mind, damaged by 48 hours of food being the enemy, rejects every idea I have.

I went to the deli today and got a whole wheat sandwich with turkey and cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. I ate 1/4 of it. That is all I could handle before my mind, who I'm pretty sure is the culprit at this point and not my body, said no. I also got some coffee because I haven't really had any in two weeks and I thought that would be a nice treat. I got a small 12 oz cup and could only drink half. It didn't even taste good. I don't even know me anymore.

So other than a liter of water and two popsicles, that is all I ate today. Strangely, I'm not even a bit hungry. Everything is out of whack. I shall wait patiently for my appetite rather than forcing it.

Though it may surprise you to hear that I did in fact go to the gym today. However, it was just to pop in to weigh myself on their fancy-shmancy doctor's office type scale since it is Monday and technically weigh-in day. Another 5 pounds lost. Though, this week, I hardly think it was worth it. I'll take only 2 pounds lost and not having a stomach virus any day of the week.

Days 10 - 13

Where to begin. Let's see. Day 10 started by getting up at 8:30 and having an apple after a difficult night that involved mild nausea. The nausea was slight but got worse throughout the day. I endured many "maybe you're pregnant" jokes from friends and family which got me thinking about men and the freedom of being able to be nauseous, moody, and/or have breast tenderness without frantically having to do math. They don't know how good they have it.

So after my first class on Thursday, I went ahead and called in sick to work because I couldn't shake the weird feeling in my stomach. Plus, I was walking with a limp. Then I went to my second class of the day which I only managed to get through with some slow breathing and occasional head down on table. By the time it was over I thought to hell with this diet, stopped at CVS on the way home, bought some ginger ale and Pepto, got home, popped the Pepto, took a swig of ginger ale and proceeded to vomit for the next 48 hours.

I'll spare you any graphic details, but I will say that when you call your mama at the end of day 2 in tears and beg to go to the hospital because you can't take it anymore, you know you're sick. A friend of my mom's called in a prescription for me which seemed to finally make it stop and Saturday was spent with no vomiting but being too weak to walk more then 10 feet without wanting to collapse. I'm feeling much better now but I still haven't had any solid food.

So dieting has not been my concern of late, but ironically, I have technically stayed on my diet. I haven't eaten a thing!

But, oh, it was terrible.

I will decide what to do about this week. I want to keep to my goals, but I also need to take care of my body and eat what it needs to get my strength back and build back my immune system. Also, finals start Friday which throws everything out of whack. I'll need to make a new game plan.

Yesterday and today after I worked out, I started feeling really nauseous and light-headed and terrible. I think I'm not eating enough calories to support the workouts. Yesterday I had some cherry tomatoes and today I had strawberries to get some calories in my system and as soon as I ate something I felt better. Going to have to figure that out because that feeling is absolutely crappy.

About 3 liters of water throughout the day.

No gym today.

Today was rough because I drove up to New York for my cousin Kim's baby boy's first birthday party. She ended up having to cancel the party at the last minute because her husband and 2-year-old came down with fevers last night. Which means there was food catered for 40 and no one to eat except Kim, a one-year-old, Joe and I. Meatballs; eggplant rollitini; a 3-foot hoagie with breaded chicken, mozzarella and roasted red peppers; pizza; garlic knots; and birthday cake. So pretty much heaven.

I had an eensy-bitty bite of meatball, eggplant rollitini and pizza each and then had a lot of the salad after picking out the delicious olives and mozzarella cheese. It was not easy. I have never wanted pizza and eggplant rollitini and a fricken' olive so bad in my life. But tomorrow is weigh-in day and I'm on a mission. I realize deprivation is no way to be successful at weight loss, but I'm going to keep being strict until I'm off this supplement. Then I plan to keep eating healthfully but not so crazy strict. This is really for me. I don't consider myself a very disciplined person, so this is about proving to myself I can do what I set my mind to, even if it's hard, in order to get the desired result. Two more weeks. I can do it.

Day 5

Up at 11:00 - cup of tea and an apple

Gym - 45 minutes on the elliptical, free weights

Lunch - grilled halibut and grilled asparagus, cup of tea

Dinner - spinach and grilled spicy shrimp with mustard powder, garlic and worcestershire sauce, strawberries

About 2 liters of water throughout the day
